Worksheet features

Everything you need in a worksheet generator

Four building blocks that turn plain text — or a ready-made Integrated Chinese or NPCR lesson word list — into print-ready practice sheets.

Pixel-perfect vector PDFs

Grids, strokes, and pinyin are rendered as native PDF vectors — crisp at any zoom, ready for 300+ DPI printing. No blurry screenshots, ever.

Pinyin with tone disambiguation

Word-level segmentation picks the right reading in context: 长城 → cháng chéng, 行长 → háng zhǎng. Tone marks shown above every grid.

Stroke-order demo pages

One character per page with its readings, English meaning, common words, and a step-by-step trace row — the new stroke always highlighted in red.

Tianzige, Mige & square grids

Field grids (田字格), diagonal grids (米字格), or blank squares in five sizes — about 15 to 27 mm cells — with optional light tracing guides for beginners.

How it works

From text to a printable PDF in three steps

1

Enter your text

Type or paste any Chinese passage — or load a preset article (Tang poems, 诗经, 论语…) or a textbook lesson word list (Integrated Chinese, all four volumes; New HSK Course 1–3).

2

Customize the layout

Pick a grid style and size, toggle pinyin, stroke-order breakdowns, and tracing guides, and add a Name/Date/Class header.

3

Preview, download & print

The sheet on screen updates as you change a setting. When it looks right, click Download PDF for the print-ready vector file. Print at home or at school and practice on paper with the correct stroke order.

Why correct stroke order matters

Writing 汉字 in the right stroke order builds muscle memory, keeps characters balanced and legible, and makes them faster to write and easier to look up in dictionaries. Every worksheet shows the standard stroke sequence, and the tracing guides start you off on the right foot — the same rules taught in Chinese schools.

Prefer to practice on screen first? Our free online stroke-order practice tool plays stroke animations, checks each stroke as you trace, and speaks the pronunciation — and in Write mode it hides the outline so you can write characters from memory, with your original handwriting staying on the page. Then print a worksheet here to lock it in on paper.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about grids, pinyin, and classroom use.

Is this Chinese worksheet generator free?

Yes. Generating, previewing, and downloading worksheet PDFs is completely free and requires no account. You can print the sheets for personal or classroom use.

What grid styles are available?

Three styles: Tianzige (田字格, with cross guides), Mige (米字格, with diagonal guides), and plain square grids — each in five sizes, from about 15 mm to 27 mm cells.

Can I download a blank practice sheet?

Yes. Clear the text box and the preview becomes a blank practice sheet with the full grid and no characters. You can choose the grid style, cell size, paper size (US Letter or A4), header, and page numbers. Print empty Tianzige (田字格), Mige (米字格), or plain square grids for handwriting practice, dictation, or classroom handouts. Download a print-ready vector PDF for free, with no account required.

Does the pinyin show the correct tones?

Yes. Pinyin is computed with word-level context, so polyphonic characters get the right tone: 长城 becomes cháng chéng and 行长 becomes háng zhǎng. In Characters mode, all readings of a character are listed.

Can I practice stroke order online instead of on paper?

Yes — our free online practice tool lets you trace characters with your finger, write them from memory on a blank grid, watch stroke-order animations, and hear pronunciation — then print a worksheet here to lock it in on paper. Practice handwriting online.

How many characters are supported?

About 9,500 characters covering simplified and traditional Chinese, each with its full stroke-order path. HSK 3.0 (2025 syllabus) vocabulary levels are shown on the online practice cards.

Can teachers use the worksheets in class?

Absolutely. Add a Name · Date · Class header (or a custom title), print as many copies as you need, and hand them out. The 100% vector output stays sharp at any print size.

Can I make worksheets from HSK vocabulary?

Yes. The generator accepts any text — open your level's word list, copy the words you want to drill, and paste them in. Pinyin with the correct tones is added automatically. Start from the HSK 1 word list.

Can I use my textbook's lesson word lists?

Yes — Integrated Chinese (all four volumes), New HSK Course 1–3, and New Practical Chinese Reader are built into the generator. Choose your textbook and lesson from the picker, and the vocabulary loads with correct pinyin automatically. See the textbook word lists.

Do I have to design a worksheet from scratch?

No. The worksheets hub has ready-made practice sheets for classic poems, idioms, and famous texts — download the PDF as-is, or open the preset in the generator and tweak the grid, pinyin, and header first. Browse ready-made worksheets.

Can I test vocabulary from memory instead of tracing it?

Yes — that is what the vocabulary recall generator is for. It prints your word list as pinyin and English prompts with blank grids, and appends an answer key for grading. Paste any list, or load a textbook lesson or HSK level straight into it. Make a vocabulary recall quiz.
